Unlike its neighbor Cave Creek, Carefree dates back to the 1950's, when it got it's start as one of the earliest planned communities in Arizona. Carefree has a reputation for its scenic beauty, rocks, and boulders. The 3rd largest working Sundial in the Western Hemisphere is located here - 90' in diameter. Some great locally owned shops and homes perched atop hills and mountains along with the areas scenic beauty have made this area home to some nationally-known personalities. Word has it that "Carefree Highway" by Gordon Lightfoot was inspired down the "magical drive" down Carefree Highway.
