Anthem is a planned community north of Phoenix (actually a planned suburb of Phoenix), that opened in 1998. The community was built by Del Webb originally, but other builders are now located there as well. The community will be the size of Flagstaff in terms of population at build out. Anthem was voted best Master Planned Community in America in 2001 by National Association of Home Builders.
Anthem consists of two areas, the Country Club and Parkside. Country Club is gate guarded community with two 18 hole Championship Golf courses (Ironwood & Persimmon). Parkside is best described as "neighborhood living", but with Big Splash Water Park, a 43,000 square foot Community Center, a 63 acre Community Park, and the Daisy Mountain Railroad (24 inch gauge). The Community Center has 150 classes, rock climbing wall, aerobics studio, full indoor basketball court, fitness center, and 6 outdoor tennis courts.
